Your item has been found, but you have left Japan. We collect it, pack it and ship it home.

US$200 is the service fee. Shipping, handling, postage and taxes are extra. If the desk only ships within Japan, it can send the item to our Japan receiving address and we forward it overseas for US$100.

So good to be able to make the call

A family member accidentally cancelled our booking the day before, and we nearly had to pay a 50% cancellation fee. Luckily the app could call the restaurant and explain, so we kept the booking and did not have to pay the extra 50% 🙏🏻 On the same day I lost my passport, and I thought I might need the app to call the police station for me. Luckily I found it at the shopping centre in the end, but being able to make a call gave me much more peace of mind.

Request Forward only — US$100

If the desk can ship directly to your country or region, use their shipping service first. We can help when you need to contact them in Japanese or receive the item afterwards.

Extra, confirmed separately

Domestic shipping in Japan, packing and handling, international postage, duties and taxes. Actual costs depend on the item, the pickup method, the packed weight and the shipping method, and we ask for your approval before each step.

Item found: how do pickup and overseas shipping work?

  1. Confirm the desk and handover

Send us the holder, item details and any reference number. We confirm in Japanese the pickup deadline, the authorization documents and the handover methods the desk accepts.

  2. Collect in person, check with photos

We collect the item at the holding location as agreed; if the desk only ships within Japan, we receive it instead. We photograph the contents to check them and confirm packing, weight and the shipping quote.

  3. Pack, ship overseas, share tracking

After you confirm the delivery details and costs, we pack and ship the item, send you the tracking number and follow the delivery. Delivery time depends on the handover, the carrier and customs.

When to use it · Item found, you've left Japan

If your item is held here, we can collect it and ship it back.

In every case below:

  • The holder has confirmed it has your item, and you have left Japan.
  • The desk agrees to the handover.
  • You provide the required proof of ownership and authorization.
  • We confirm the actual pickup location and travel costs first.
  1. Hotels, inns and front desks

You noticed something missing after checkout and the hotel has confirmed it has it. We collect it in person; if the hotel only ships within Japan, it can send it to our Japan receiving address first.

  2. JR stations and lost-property desks

We confirm where the item is actually held, the pickup deadline and the authorization documents, then collect it. If the center does not allow in-person pickup, we confirm domestic shipping instead.

  3. Private railways, subways and other lines

Left on a train or at a station, and the railway company is holding it. We contact that company, collect it under the designated desk's rules, then ship it overseas.

  4. Airport and airline lost-and-found desks

Held by an airport, terminal or airline. We first confirm which desk has it; if it has been handed to the police, we follow the police pickup rules instead.

  5. Police stations, koban and police lost-property centers

We confirm the current holding and pickup desk and help prepare the letter of authorization and other required details. Once the police agree to release it to a proxy, we collect it at the designated location.

  6. Taxi, bus and rental car companies

Found at a taxi company, a branch office or a rental car counter. We confirm where it is held, then collect it or receive the package they send within Japan, and arrange shipping back to you.

  7. Shops, restaurants and attractions

Held by a shop, restaurant, attraction or other service counter. We contact the staff, confirm the owner and how it will be handed over, then collect, pack and ship it.

Send us these details first.

  • The holder's name, contact details and reference number (if any).
  • The message confirming they found the item, and the pickup deadline.
  • Photos or a description of the item, its contents, and whether it contains a battery.
  • The destination country or region, postcode and how to reach you.

When you request, add the destination to the item description, such as "ship to the US" or "ship to the UK". You will give us the full delivery address when we confirm the shipping arrangement.

Where we ship, and what to ask about first

Taiwan, Hong Kong, the US, Canada, the UK, Australia or another country or region. International shipping costs, available carriers and item restrictions are confirmed for each destination. Once you approve the quote, we pack and ship the item and send you the tracking number.

Checked by contents before handover

  • Phones, laptops and other devices with batteries
  • Cash, ID or documents inside a wallet
  • Medicines, liquids, food and other restricted items — tell us in advance

We confirm a workable shipping method before arranging the handover. Items held by the police follow the official process: the desk must agree, and you must provide the required proof of ownership and authorization documents.

20 October 2026: preparing protective wrapping for the MacBook.

The situation

The owner had returned to the United States while a grey Patagonia backpack and its contents remained at a police lost-and-found center in Japan. The bag contained a silver MacBook, Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, a passport, a book and charging accessories. The collection needed proof of ownership for the belongings as well as identification of the bag.

What we did

  1. 17–18 October 2026 — Gathered the collection documents and descriptions of the backpack and its contents. Asked for identifying photos or other ownership evidence.
  2. 19 October (Japan time) — The owner supplied the laptop purchase invoice as ownership evidence and explained how the device could be identified. Prepared those details for the collection visit.
  3. 19 October — Collected the backpack and belongings from the lost-and-found center. Photographed the bag, laptop, glasses and other contents, and sent the collection update with eight photos to the owner.
  4. 20 October — Prepared protective wrapping for the MacBook and packed the belongings for international posting. The EMS postal receipt records a packed weight of 4.13 kg.
  5. 20 October — Japan Post accepted the parcel for the United States. Sent the shipping update and tracking details privately to the owner.

The outcome

The backpack and belongings were collected on 19 October 2026 and shipped to the United States by Japan Post EMS on 20 October. Collection photos and postal acceptance records document these two completed steps.

  2. Checked the center's requirements for collection by a proxy and helped prepare the authorization documents.
  3. After receiving the owner's signed authorization, collected the phone in person.
  4. Sent the phone to Canada by Japan Post EMS and reported the shipment to the owner.

The outcome

Shinjuku, Tokyo → US

A MacBook that had moved from the hotel to the police

We followed the handover from APA Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho Tower to Shinjuku Police Station, then helped arrange its return to the US.

Case details & call video

The situation

The guest left his MacBook Air in his room at APA Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho Tower and only started recovering it after returning to the US. By then the laptop was no longer at the hotel: it had been handed to Shinjuku Police Station.

What we did

  1. Followed up with the hotel on the stay details and its lost-item record.
  2. Traced where the laptop was held after the hotel passed it to police, instead of asking the original hotel again and again.
  3. Followed up on the documents needed for collection and clarified how an owner overseas could proceed.
  4. Helped arrange shipping the laptop back overseas.

The outcome

We confirmed where the laptop was held after the transfer and which collection documents were needed, and helped ship it back to the US.

A child’s Kuromi backpack traced across three desks

From the airport to customs and then police, we followed the trail and checked owner collection, a friend collecting and domestic shipping.

Case details

The situation

A child's Kuromi backpack went missing after a trip through the airport. The family needed to find which office actually held it, and were weighing collecting it themselves, having a friend collect it, or having it shipped.

What we did

  1. Contacted the airport desk, then customs as referred, and then followed up with police.
  2. Customs mentioned a backpack that might match but needed more specific details of its contents, so we asked the family for identifying features and photos.
  3. Continued with police and got a clear reply that the backpack was held by Narita International Airport Police Station.
  4. Asked which ID documents the owner or a friend would need to collect it, and what shipping options existed within Japan.
  5. Explained that sending it to a hotel first needs the hotel's agreement to receive it and handle the shipping cost, and that forwarding it overseas is a separate arrangement.

The outcome

The backpack was found and is held by Narita International Airport Police Station. The family received concrete options for collecting it themselves, having a friend collect it, or shipping it within Japan, and could choose how to get it back.

Common questions

My lost item was found in Japan and I'm already home. Can you collect it and ship it to me?

Yes. This service is for owners who have already left Japan, whose item a Japanese holder has confirmed finding, and who need someone to collect it and ship it back. We collect, photograph and check, pack and ship it to Taiwan, Hong Kong, the US, Canada, the UK, Australia and other countries and regions, with tracking. Available carriers, shipping methods and item restrictions are confirmed for each destination before we quote and ship.

Will you pick it up in person and ship it overseas?

Yes. Once the item has been found, the holder agrees to release it to a proxy and you have completed the required authorization, we collect it at the designated location, photograph and check it, pack it and ship it overseas with a tracking number. If the desk only ships within Japan, we can receive it first and forward it. The item must meet the carrier's and destination's shipping rules.

Which holding locations does the pickup and shipping service cover?

It covers found items held by hotels, inns, JR stations, private railways or subways, airports, airlines, police stations, koban, police lost-property centers, taxi companies, bus or rental car companies, shops, restaurants and attractions. The actual pickup location and method follow the holder's rules; for desks that do not allow in-person pickup, we can check whether they will ship within Japan.

The hotel only ships within Japan. Can it use your address?

Yes. Choose Forward only for a US$100 service fee. If the hotel agrees to ship to our Japan receiving address and the item meets the carrier's rules, we receive it, photograph and check it, and ship it overseas with tracking. There is no pickup trip. We share the address once the arrangement is confirmed, so please do not send anything before then. Shipping, handling, postage and duties are quoted separately, and we ask for your approval before each shipping step.

Does the US$200 include overseas shipping?

No. US$200 is the service fee for pickup and shipping. Domestic shipping in Japan, packing and handling, international postage, duties and taxes are extra, and we ask for your approval before each shipping step. If the holder can ship the item to our Japan receiving address and you only need forwarding, choose Forward only for US$100.

Can you ship a phone, laptop or wallet overseas?

It depends on the contents. Phones, laptops and other devices with batteries must meet the carrier's battery and packing rules; cash, ID and other items in a wallet must also be checked one by one. We explain the options first, then arrange shipping.

My item is at a police station or police lost-property center. Can you collect it?

We can handle found items that the police agree to release to a proxy. We first confirm the holding desk, the letter of authorization, proof of ownership and the proxy's ID, then collect it at the designated location. You must provide the required details and give your authorization yourself; if the desk requires the owner to collect in person, we follow that rule. The service covers retrieving lost property only, not police reports, investigations or other law-enforcement matters.

My item hasn't been found yet. Can I use this service?

Start with our lost-item search first. This service is for owners whose item the holder has already confirmed finding and who need pickup and shipping arranged. A location shown on a tracker, or an enquiry you have already sent, does not mean a desk has confirmed it is holding the item.

Item found? Let's get it shipped to you.

Send us the holding desk and item details, and we will confirm the next step.

Left it at a hotel? Read our guide to getting it back from abroad.

Pickup and carrier rules checked: . Each holder's, item's and carrier's actual rules are confirmed when we arrange the handover.
