One checklist for your Japanese restaurant call.

Prepare the request, make the call, then keep the answer. Use this for a new booking, change, cancellation or late arrival.

1. Choose the right route

Booking online is available? Start with the restaurant’s official booking link.

Changing an existing booking? Check the original confirmation and booking channel first. Avoid making a second reservation by mistake.

A phone call is needed? Prepare the details below. You can speak yourself or give the request to a Japanese-speaking caller.

2. Prepare these details

Restaurant and branch

Official phone number

Booking name

Date and time (Japan time)

Adults and children

Original booking reference

Acceptable alternative times

Your contact method

Request: □ Book □ Change □ Cancel □ Late arrival

Keep the filled copy private. Do not share booking references or contact details in a public review.

3. Use a short Japanese script

New booking

__月__日、__時に__名で予約できますか。

Can I book for __ people at __ on __?

Change the time

__月__日__時に予約している__です。時間を__時に変更できますか。

I am __, booked for __ at __. Can I change the time to __?

Running late

本日、__時に予約している__です。到着が__分ほど遅れそうです。予約はそのままお願いできますか。

I am __, booked for __ today. I expect to be about __ minutes late. Can you keep the booking?

Cancel

__月__日__時に予約している__です。申し訳ありませんが、予約をキャンセルしたいです。キャンセル料はかかりますか。

I am __, booked for __ at __. I am sorry, but I would like to cancel. Is there a cancellation fee?

4. Keep the actual answer

A connected call is not a booking. Use the restaurant’s answer and the conditions you accepted.
