Osaka Station has no lost property number of its own; all enquiries go through the JR West lost property line on 0570-00-4146, or 06-6133-4146 when calling from overseas or when the 0570 number does not connect. JR West also offers a 24-hour online chat, with staff replies from 09:00 to 19:00. Hankyu, Hanshin and Osaka Metro around Umeda are separate companies with their own lost property desks.
Before you call
- If 0570-00-4146 does not connect from overseas or from an internet phone, call 06-6133-4146, which reaches the same desk.
- If you would rather not speak Japanese, send the search request through the JR West 24-hour online chat; staff reply from 09:00 to 19:00.
- Check which operator's train you were on first: JR Osaka Station is covered here, while Hankyu and Hanshin Umeda stations and Osaka Metro Umeda, Higashi-Umeda and Nishi-Umeda each have their own lost property desk.
- A useful opening line is '電車内の忘れ物の問い合わせをしたいのですが', followed by the date, the line and section, and a description of the item.
- If you only notice the loss several days later, the item may have been passed to the police, so you can also check the Osaka Prefectural Police lost property process.
There is no public lost property number for Osaka Station itself, so items lost at the station or on a JR West train go through the JR West lost property line on 0570-00-4146, or 06-6133-4146 from overseas, from 09:00 to 19:00 every day. JR West states that the line operates in Japanese only, so have the date, the line and section and a description of the item ready before you call. Umeda is shared by several operators: items lost on Hankyu, Hanshin or Osaka Metro need those companies' own desks instead.
Call script: Japanese, romaji and English
Replace every ◯ with your own date, number and name. These are example lines, not a promise from the office: whether the item is found, and the rules for pickup or shipping, are decided by the desk that holds it.
First inquiry: date, place and a description of the item

Common questions
Can I call in English?
Japanese only - the official JR West page states that the line operates in Japanese only. If the desk cannot handle the call in English, use the Japanese script below and ask them to speak slowly; language support can change, so confirm the current situation on the official page.
When is it easiest to get through?
Calls get through more easily just after the line opens at 09:00 on weekdays or before 18:00 Open every day of the year.
What happens after a week?
There is no single national rule: the office decides how long it keeps an item and when it is passed to the police or another desk. If the item has not been found yet, ask which desk is holding it now, for a reference number, and how long it will be kept.
Can someone collect or ship it for me?
The office decides whether a proxy can collect the item and which ID or authorization is required. If you have already left Japan, ask whether it can be shipped within Japan or overseas, and confirm the conditions and cost with the office. The collection script below has the questions to ask.
What is Native Call?
You can speak English, Mandarin, or Cantonese. The person in Japan hears Japanese, and their Japanese reply is translated back into your selected language.
